Alpha Release
Climate Physics is up and running. People involved in these initial weeks are helping us to get a solid start and some initial content ready for an official launch day. Thank you!
We need people to sign up and add content. Introduce yourself at the Meet and Greet forum. Speak up to welcome a few others. Have a look at the guidelines, then start a thread, or contribute to someone else's thread, in "General discussion" about something frivolous. Give ideas and suggestions and problems in "Feedback". Write about a recent or an important paper in "Published papers". Try your hand at a "Tutorial". And also, if another thread by someone else looks interesting, add something to it!
We need people to put a bit of work into getting the board active and humming in these early days. You can help off-site as well, by blogging about it, or blogging about an interesting thread.
There will be a public launch of the new board in late June or early July with some special events. By then the board will hopefully be working spontaneously and we can all relax a bit at a job well done to get it going... and I will remove these distracting notices.
Ideas or suggestions for Climate Physics forums may be added in the feedback forum without registration.

If you register as a board member, you will be able to join in discussions in all the main forums, and have many additional features such as customizing your profile, blogging, and personal messages. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

If you're already a member please log in to your account to access all of our features.

Our aim is to support substantive discussion of the science of climate, especially the underlying physics. We focus on ideas that have been published in the conventional scientific literature. This still allows for all kinds of competing ideas to be considered, while hopefully avoiding distraction from ideas that have no credible basis.

Welcome to Climate Physics

This is a form set up for discussion of the science associated with physics. It is intended to remain substantive, by maintaining a focus on what is actually being published by working scientists in the conventional scientific literature.

At this point I am particularly interested to have feedback and suggestions for the forum. You do not have to register to participate in the Feedback forum.

New BOLD theme available

Posted by sylas (Admins) at May 12 2010, 03:42 PM. 0 comments

Down at the bottom left of your screen there should be a little box in which you can select the "Theme" used to view the board.

I have added a new theme called "Dpad BOLD", which makes all the fonts a bit bigger, and uses a dark green color for most of the text. This may be easier to read for some folks, I'm trying to emulate some ideas which were given to me from users of another forum.

The current default fonts are a bit small. I am planning to revamp the board's appearance at some point, so feedback in the feedback forum about ways to improve the appearance of things would be very welcome. It's not particularly hard to make a modification like this.

The other available themes are left overs which I am not really planning to support. There's the original zetaboards default, and another theme called "Botanica" which we tried out and discarded. But it's still there.

Graphic designers with some experience in web design and css who would like to work out a whole new skin and icon set for us for free are welcome to get in touch! :P

Accessing your profile and your avatar

Posted by sylas (Admins) at May 12 2010, 07:03 AM. 0 comments

I need to fix up the FAQ to give better guidance on things like this!

Some people have asked about avatars. If you go to the upper right hand side of the screen, there is a menu called "preferences". From there you can edit your signature, your profile, and your avatar. The avatar is a small image that appears with your posts and will help other members identify your contributions quickly and easily.

You can also tell us all kinds things about yourself in your profile.

Time to start advertising the forums

Posted by sylas (Admins) at May 7 2010, 12:52 PM. 0 comments

Climate Physics Forums is now up and running, but it will take a bit of time to get rolling. Now is the time to start advertising -- responsibly! -- and to start posting at the forums. We need more people posting!

Here is a list of blogs or other pages pointing to the forum:

[indentblock](There is a longer list at discussion topic Thank you for advertising Climate Physics Forums, and it is being extended.)[/indentblock]

I am also busy emailing friends and contacts and others who have expressed an interest. If anyone reading this knows someone they think would appreciate a site like this, pass it on.

It's also going to be important to get the ball rolling here at the board; so members who add new content my making posts at this early phase are being a big help! Thank you.

Alpha Release

Climate Physics has just gone alpha release.

This means we are now submitted to google, and anyone is welcome to tell others about the board.

I will be overseas for a couple of weeks in May/June. I'll still access the board, but possibly not every day. After I get back, we'll have a proper board launch, and a couple of special events.

I have fixed up the main board theme, for the most part. It is based on "DPad Blue". However, I'd love to hear from a good web designer for ideas on a better look for the board.

Guidelines updated

Posted by sylas (Admins) at Mar 15 2010, 11:43 AM. 0 comments

The board guidelines have been extensively updated. They are now basically complete, although they may still be tuned and refined as the board settles into a routine. I have edited the pinned topic to reflect the updated guidelines.

Our own internet domain

Posted by sylas (Admins) at Mar 15 2010, 11:41 AM. 0 comments

The Climate Physics forums now have their own internet domain! It is: http://climatephysicsforums.com

There's also an email address. You can contact the board administration as admin "at" climatephysicsforums.com

The name is a bit long, but shorter names are mostly taken. This name recognizes the important example of physicsforums for constructive discussion of science based topics, but does not represent an official association. There is no connection in the management of the boards. I am a member of physicsforums, but that is simply another science related board. The owner of physicsforums is happy for us to use to use the domain name I have chosen.

Home page in profile

Posted by sylas (Admins) at Mar 9 2010, 05:01 AM. 0 comments

I have just deleted a custom profile field for "Home Page", because it was redundant. There's already a home page in the standard profile fields!

I don't think this will be a problem for anyone; as far as I can see members who used the custom field already had the same thing in the standard field.

If there are other fields that would be good in the profile, give some feedback on it please!
